5 Reasons to Embrace Early Morning Workouts
Some of the most successful people know they need to continuously push themselves mentally and physically. So they jumpstart their day with intense exercise routines that pushes their boundaries, makes them stronger and improves mental processing. Regardless of how hectic your day is, working out in the morning is the only way to assure you won’t run out of time later or risk making excuses.
Trust me when I say waking up at 4:45a is not easy, but if it was everyone would do it. When my alarm goes off at that hour, I want to cry but force myself to get up and go to the gym. I have a trainer which creates major accountability and when you pay for a glorified babysitter, you’ll wake up.
Three days a week, I’m at Central Boxing Club here in Phoenix, by 5:45a. My warm-up consists of: sprints, jump-up’s, mountain climbers, slamming a sledgehammer on a tractor tire, step-up’s with dumbbells and a medicine ball, battle rope madness, speed bag, jump rope and abs. Each station is 35 seconds and I run through this circuit 3 – 5 times. If I’m really on a good one, I’ll bang this out 8 times.
Then I get wrapped and gloved up, coach puts on his boxing mitts, calls out 11 punch combinations, and I blast through 6 – 8 (three minute) rounds. I’m always pushing myself to the next level so some days we’ll even spar. Boxing is no joke! These gnarly workouts give me the relentless focus I need while keeping me disciplined and moving forward. After my workouts I’m so glad I drug myself out of bed, my willpower is off the charts, and I’m fired up for the day.
Two nights a week I also do yoga, which helps me unplug and kills the switch on my thoughts. I love the meditation side of yoga and sometimes I’m so relaxed that I check out for a bit. It’s great to wash away crazy days with this practice. It can be very relaxing but it’s also an intense workout. Yoga days are usually double days, combined with interval training.
Here are 5 reasons for you to embrace early morning workouts if you’re not already doing so:
- Set a healthy tone for the day.
- Rev up your metabolism.
- Increase your mental acuity.
- You won’t have to worry about squeezing in a workout before happy hour.
- You’ll feel like you’re on top of the world when you’re done, so just do it! You can thank me later.
