Are You A Simultaneous Screen User?

If you take a walk down memory lane, it’s mind blowing to reflect on how rapidly the marketing and advertising world has evolved.  We’ve seen things shift from print, to TV, to the ever-changing digital world.

The ease of smartphones and tablets allow millions of consumers to have instant access in the palm of their hands 24/7/365.  If you peel the layers back even further, consumers now use multiple screens in sequence.  Some start their search on their smartphones or desktops, while others, like myself, use their phone, tablet and computer simultaneously.

Our on-the-go lifestyles drive us to use portable devices to conduct basic searches.  Even if you’re chillin’ on the couch at home, it takes too long to start your laptop or desktop.  Instead we reach for what’s usually right next to us, our phone or tablet.  Not only that but people with smartphones, tablets, TV’s and computers are constantly switching between screens to get things done.  The way we connect is completely different than it was 5 years ago.

Since consumers are switching between screens and devices to find information and complete tasks, businesses have to be following suit.  If you aren’t marketing your business on various digital platforms, consumers will call a company that is and ultimately take away from your market share.

Imagine you’re fishing and you cast out a big net, hoping to catch as many fish as possible.  Now imagine changing your approach.  You throw out the right bait and schools of fish come your way and you catch ten times as many.  That’s exactly what effective digital marketing can do.   It puts your message in front of potential consumers on multiple devices at the exact moment they are looking for you.  How awesome is that?

The moral of the story is: regardless where your business operates, an aggressive digital presence is just as important as a storefront.  Your business size doesn’t matter – small, medium or multibillion dollar empire – if you’re not integrating multiple touch points in your marketing mix, you’re not fully connecting with your audience.  Stay current with today’s simultaneous screen user and watch schools of fish swim gracefully to you.
