Invest in Your Thoughts

Thank you so much for the wonderful feedback from last month’s column.  Some experiences in life inspire me to write, so I publish these pieces to keep myself in check with subtle reminders.  If at least one other person can benefit with a positive nudge, then my column served its purpose.  I appreciate the emails, social messages, calls, texts, IM’s, and in-person acknowledgements from my readers and fans, so please keep them coming!

Last month, I touched on not giving any place to negativity in your life, so here’s some insight on how to do that.  In spite of our happiness and successes, sometimes we experience pains along the way that knock us down or trip us up.  Like Jay-Z said, “go and brush your shoulders off, and get that dirt off your shoulder.”  That’s literally what you have to do.  Pick yourself up, dust yourself off, (fix your hair), and keep going.

As crazy as it sounds we have to endure pains in order to receive more gains.   It’s during these times of discomfort that we grow leaps and bounds while learning so much about ourselves.  If things always came up roses we’d be riding the gravy train and would never be challenged.

While experiencing “growing pains” remember how quickly your thoughts can change your aura.   Negative thinking of any kind can quickly steal your joy and cause a whirlwind of bad moods.  It’s fascinating we have the ability to make ourselves overjoyed or melancholy by what we choose to think about.

People who tend to be negative with their thoughts and conversations are usually despondent and rarely content with anything for very long.  We all know how draining these energy vampires are, so don’t be that person.

It’s essential to get your mind off of anything that could cause you to stumble as you race your way to the top.  You’ll have to discipline yourself to invest in your thoughts and overtime your thinking process will only produce optimistic emotions.

I’m generally a positive person, but sometimes negative thoughts come to surface.  When this happens, I catch myself spilling out bad energy, apologize to those around me, and refocus on things that make me happy.  If you work on being more conscientious of your thoughts, you’ll notice when something unpleasant pops up and tell yourself to change gears.  I think of it as flicking those thoughts away or telling them there’s no room for that mess here.

We need to be satisfied with the consequences of our thoughts as they hold the power of satisfaction or displeasure.  Positive thoughts generate positive vibes which makes you a more positive person that others want to be around.  Stay committed to investing in your thoughts, even during times of pain, and watch your newfound positivity come alive.
