MBA International Experience #2 in China

Wow!  I just got back from China with my Executive MBA program at CSU Fresno and it was such an awesome opportunity.  Some people say I’m lucky but it’s not luck; it’s hard work pursuing a higher education.  I’m so impressed with the ability to travel and earn a graduate degree right here in the Central Valley at Fresno State.  So much hidden talent is nestled away in the 559, and after returning from Europe a few months ago and now China, it’s still a personal goal to increase awareness and encourage others to follow their dreams of travel while obtaining a degree.

We went on company visits to Beijing Hyundai Motors, Huairou Cloisonne Factory, Synergis Management Services Limited, Mindray Medical International Limited, BYD Company Limited, Invest Hong Kong, and Kowloon Tsai Home Owners Association.  We studied at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) with lectures on Chinese Wisdom and Modern Management (my favorite), Financial Issues in Developing Markets, Hong Kong Logistics Infrastructure and Operation, Doing Business in China, and visited the School of Medicine at HKBU.

While in Beijing we climbed the Great Wall of China (a killer workout with a phenomenal view), had lunch with a local family in Hutong, toured the Quing Dynasty Summer Palace, Temple of Heaven, Pearl Market, Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, and went to Chaoyang’s Acrobat Show.  In Hong Kong we went to Victoria’s Peak (the most amazing skyline in the world), Festival Walk, Kowloon Tong, Shenzhen, Macau (which has surpassed Vegas in terms of gambling), various temples, and boat tours with incredible views. I’m telling you, they kept us busy.

When you travel the world you become thankful for things we take for granted on a daily basis.  Throughout my MBA, I’ve written reports on social media and websites that are unavailable in various parts of China but it was so different actually living it.  Thank you Alex Hamilton and Micaela Soria for managing my social media while I was gone.

My International MBA experiences have opened my eyes to the global economy, life in other countries, and networking worldwide which are all things you can’t put a price tag on.  If you ever have the opportunity to study abroad, don’t think twice about it, just do it.
