The ‘Social’ Life in Miami
Crystal clear waters, white sand, palm trees galore, beaches so gorgeous you forget you’re in a city and a ‘social’ life you’ll always remember. Miami is a hot spot – a hot place to visit and literally a wireless hot spot with Wi-Fi throughout the city and even on the sand.
In my travels to different countries, cities, and states I’ve seen how other parts of the world use social media. After a killer trip to Miami, I can honestly their ‘social’ life is off the hook!
If you’re ‘socially’ active, think about the times you travel, attend sporting events, kid’s recitals, weddings, parties and music festivals. Chances are you check in on Foursquare and post selfies on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Google +, Snapchat, and the list goes on.
Whether you realize it or not, you’re giving the places you check in to and tag FREE advertising. So as a business owner, it should make sense that you need to be ‘socially’ active too, right? If you’re not, how will people tell their thousands of friends and followers where they are? And how much of a bust is it when you can’t check in because a business isn’t listed or can’t be found?
In my first column back in November of 2011, I wrote, “It’s imperative to be active in all the places your customers hang out online and connect with them in those locations. Social media amplifies your efforts to connect.”
Here we are 3 years later and that statement is more powerful than ever.
During my time in Miami, I posted about the following hot spots and felt the love in return (more FREE advertising for them):
- Fontainbleau Miami Beach Resort & Hotel
- Sonesta Bayfront Hotel Coconut Grove
- Soho Beach House
- Soho Studios
- Delano Beach Club
- Story Nightclub
- Havana 1957 Cuban Cuisine
- Jaguar Ceviche Restaurant
These places kept the conversation going and capitalized on it by liking, re-tweeting, sharing &/or commenting on my posts. If you’ve ever had a place (you like) give ‘social’ love back, you know how cool that is. A big shout-out to so many spots in Miami for doing this!
In addition to creating memories that will last a lifetime, I will continue recommending these hot spots and will visit them again when I’m back in Miami. Their ‘social’ life is worth experiencing and writing about. So if your business isn’t ‘socially’ active … it should be.
A special thank you to Beth Bruegman and Ruth Medlin for sending topics in response to my last column, “What to Write About.”
