What’s Your 10 Year Plan?

When was the last time you took a bird’s-eye view of the next 10 years of your life?  Chances are it’s been a quick thought, but a thought is all it was.  You may not realize it but the next 10 years are the most important and best to come.  Some of you will be retiring, getting married, having kids, becoming Dr. Soria, etc.  In order to fulfill your destiny you have to be specific about what you want and you need to have a plan.

Since this is a business publication that supports professional development and many of you are business owners, you’ve either written a business plan or had one written for you.  Now riddle me this: why do so many people invest in a plan for business but not a plan for their lives?

The way you see your future is the way you’ll live your future.  If things are going to be different in a decade, you have to start planning now.  You’ll also have to force yourself to be still, be quite and listen to the nudges that prompt you.

My move to Phoenix happened because I listened to my nudge and followed my calling.  If you discover what’s calling you, you will succeed.  Yes, stepping out in the unknown can be scary, but when fear knocks let faith answer the door.  Great things are waiting for you on the other side of these nudges.  You just have to focus on building your future and it all starts with knowing what your dreams are.

Since I moved here I’ve been mapping out the next 10 years and have broken them down into 1, 3, 5 and 10 year goals.  All of which include personal, professional and financial segments.  To help keep my dreams alive I’ve learned to surround myself with like-minded people and positive centers of influence.  Along the way I’ve had dream busters, energy vampires, pitfalls and battles pop up.  You will too.  Whatever you do, don’t let someone’s closed mind close your doors.  People will always try to tear your dreams down and if you listen to the negative voices you’ll only be sabotaging yourself.

The way to ensure you stay on track is to be a bright light and dare yourself to be different than others.  Great people never follow the crowd; they take the road less traveled.  You can only make a difference by being different.  It’s time to live the life you’ve always imagined … and it all starts with a plan.
